"The Glass is Always Full: Thinking Outside the Box...About Inside the Glass (and Everywhere Else in Life)" is a non-fiction book about Pure Innovation -- that which applies to our personal lives and society around us. It takes the concept of innovation worlds beyond the conventional domains of business and technology. Innovation is pure, simple, easy, and universal in its application. Anyone can practice it. It can be used to solve problems, create value, and improve the quality of any aspect of your life...and the world around you. This book turns "conventional wisdom" around the concept of innovation...completely around!
The book is completed, as of early 2008. It is approximately 50,000 words in length. I have written an accompanying magazine article, which captures the book's conclusions in a rather unique presentation: "The Seven States of the Innovative Mind." The book should wind up in one or more of the following genres: Self-Help, Psychology, Philosophy, Motivation, or (eventualy) Business or Management. It is also currently in search of the appropriate publisher, perhaps by way of an excellent literary agent.
The book's contents include:
....Introduction 1. Innovation Definition 2. Innovation Values 3. Innovation Examples 4. Innovation Recipes 5. Innovation Imperatives 6. Innovation Stories 7. Innovation Measurement 8. Innovation Tools 9. Innovation Environment 10.Innovation Inspiration ....Conclusion ....Epilogue ....Acknowledgements, Bibliography, etc.
The Definition chapter covers the old, the confusing, and the new versions of how innovation is defined. The Values chapter answers the question, "what's in it for me?" The Examples chapter provides hundreds of everyday items that you may not have realized are true forms of innovation, all around us. The Recipes chapter shows you what circumstances and ingredients go into almost any opportunity to innovate. The Imperatives chapter discusses dozens of different personal, social, global, and vital issues where we all need to apply innovation...as soon and as effectively as we can.
The Stories chapter covers several fascinating real-life case studies of innovations that brings to life actual innovators in our society. The Standards chapter describes how innovation can and should be measured. The Tools chapter shows you how easy it is to innovate by using some very simple techniques and methods. The Environment chapter discusses what aspects of our personal or work environments will make innovation easier, or more difficult, and how we can influence it either way. And finally, the Inspiration chapter shows you just how powerful the effects of innovation can be upon your life, and upon the world around you. The Epilogue finishes the book with some fun, crazy, and truly fascinating ideas around these new insights on Pure Innovation.
This book is fun, funny, informative, thought-provoking, often controversial, and very powerful in its presentation of an entirely fresh and new look at the topic of innovation.
